Diagnostic tests are useful to the physician in the diagnosis and management of disease. In CPT, these are called special ophthalmological services and describe procedures above and beyond a general examination. They are usually treated discretely for reimbursement purposes.

This discussion will address the salient attributes of each test, as well as pertinent reimbursement rules. This monograph is meant to assist the reader to better understand the rules and regulations regarding reimbursement for diagnostic tests. Many of the common diagnostic tests are discussed.
