Ellen R. Adams
Ellen Adams is a consultant with Corcoran Consulting Group.
Ellen began her career in ophthalmology in 1984 and achieved Certified Ophthalmic Assistant status from the Commission of Allied Health Professionals in Ophthalmology in 1985. She was certified as an Ophthalmic Surgical Assistant in 1989. In 1994, she was credentialed as a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist.
From 1984 to 1999, Ellen worked as an ophthalmic scribe, technician and first assist for anterior segment and retinal procedures.
Ellen earned her MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in 1999 and began work as a business manager in Boston for a multi-physician practice. In 2002 she joined Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) as a regional director for five clinics, overseeing operations, personnel and assisting the compliance officer in policy development. She was credentialed by the American Academy of Ophthalmology as a Coding Specialist in 2004 and assumed the role of Compliance Officer. She was named the Director of Compliance for OCB in 2009. In her director role, she is responsible for program development and physician and staff training in HIPAA and billing compliance as well as risk management.
She has acted as the New England Ophthalmological Society executive assistant to the chair of the Ophthalmic Services Committee since 2012. In addition to providing billing and coding insight to the group, she writes a well-received quarterly newsletter. She is a regular contributor as lecturer and writer for the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA), recently receiving an APEX ® award for her writing contribution to the ASOA magazine.
In August 2018 Ellen joined Corcoran Consulting Group. Ellen brings clinical, administrative and compliance knowledge to Corcoran. She continues to be active in ASOA as a writer and lecturer. Ellen conducts business from the Corcoran Consulting Group’s Massachusetts office.
