2014 Payment Rules Delayed

You will need to wait a bit longer this year than in years past to view the 2014 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a delay in releasing the final 2014 payment rules. Normally released the first week of November, the recent government shutdown has resulted in a delay until late November. CMS indicates a release on or before November 27, 2013.

In addition to the physician fee schedule, the rule also includes fee schedule information for ambulatory surgery centers, hospital outpatient departments as well as changes to the physician incentive programs (e.g., PQRS, E-Rx). Despite the delay in publication, CMS cites an effective date of January 1, 2014 for the final rules.
