April 2, 2012 Update to Medicare Physician Fee Schedule
The CMS MLN Matters 7745 (MM7745) contains several important updates implemented on April 2, 2012.
- CMS is correcting anesthesia code payments for CY 2011 and early CY 2012. New conversion factors will be published in CR7745. Physicians may have payments adjusted in 2012 for both the 2011 and 2012 improperly paid claims. Contact your Medicare contractor to alert them of the need to make these adjustments.
- Retroactive to January 1, 2012, CPT code 92072, Fitting of CL for keratoconus, initial fitting will be considered bilateral. The MPFS bilateral indicator has been changed to “2” (bilateral) from “3” (unilateral).
- HCPCS code S0596 is effective April 1, 2012 and is described as Phakic intraocular lens for correction of refractive error. This is a refractive proedure and no RVUs are assigned.
