Claim’s Processing and Fee Schedule Issues

As previously reported, Medicare contractors resumed processing claims on July 16, 2008. WPS Medicare, Part B contractor for Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska, announced on their website that they were able to update their system immediately and will process claims with the correct fee schedule. Therefore, practices in these locations will not receive underpaid claims and await reconciled dollars at a later date. This is great news as it allows practices to submit claims promptly.

Other Medicare contractors may be able to update their systems more quickly than the estimated ten day to two week timeline. Check your contractor’s website for up to date information on fee schedule status.
