CMS Rescinds Instructions on Filing Diagnostic Test Claims to Medicare

CMS Transmittal 1873, initially scheduled to be effective January 4, 2010, and then delayed until July 1, 2010, has been rescinded for now.

The transmittal required the date of service on the professional component of a diagnostic test to be the date the test is interpreted. If the technical component of a test was performed on a different date than the interpretation, file two claims (e.g., August 1 file 92083-TC and August 8 file 92083-26). Numerous place of service options for the interpretation were also described in the transmittal.

CMS expects to re-issue this instruction at a future date.
