CMS To Hold Payments Temporarily
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today announced that they were placing a hold on payments for claims with dates of service on/after April 1, 2021, but noted this will only be for a short period. Claims with dates of service before this will continue to be processed and paid as usual.
CMS announced they were doing this in anticipation of passage of legislation continuing the moratorium on the Medicare 2% sequester payment reduction. In separate Acts, both the House and Senate have recently passed bills with bipartisan support, but the bills need to be reconciled before they can be signed by the President. This means that although claims will be delayed a short time, no reprocessing and no adjustments (sometimes for very small amounts) will be needed. The current portion of the CARES Act regulation which extended the moratorium on sequester pay cuts, and was passed in December, is set to expire on March 31, 2021.
