EHR Certification

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced the first two agencies able to certify EHR systems for meeting the meaningful use criteria. They are the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) and Drummond Group Inc. CMS expects to approve others and continues to review applications from other agencies. Certification is required to qualify for the HIT bonus. Additional information about these organizations can be found at:

If you are shopping for an EHR system, ask the vendor about certification. You will want to assure yourself that the system will meet the meaningful use definition and objectives.
