Medicare Enrollment Changes

CMS plans to make several welcome changes to the enrollment process. Part B News reports that CMS officials revealed the changes during a recent national provider enrollment workshop. Of particular interest is the ability to submit an enrollment application up to 60 days prior to the physician’s start date at your practice. This change provides an additional 30 days to the enrollment process. CMS indicates that the 60 day rule is in effect now.

Future changes will include the ability to upload required documents, eliminating the need to fax or mail them; allow providers to delegate the enrollment process to someone else by resetting the login and password in PECOs; and a new screen to look up the status of providers reassigning benefits to a group practice.

With the exception of the 60-day rule change, the additional changes will occur throughout the remainder of the year.
