NHIC – Changes to Customer Service Telephone Lines

NHIC, Medicare contractor for several northeast states, has added automation to the Identity Proofing for their toll free telephone lines.

Billing staff should be prepared to enter NPI, PTAN, and the last five digits of the organization’s tax identification number when contacting the Part B call center.  These practice identifiers can be entered by voice or, if all numbers, can be entered via the phone’s keypad.  If identifiers have letters, they must be entered via the voice option.

Once the authentication process is complete, the caller will be passed on to a representative for assistance.
