Open Payments System Reopens

In June 2014, physicians began preparing for the implementation of the Sunshine Act. One of the recommended steps was to register on the CMS website to be able to review and dispute any inaccuracies before the information was made public.

A physician complaint about the data published caused CMS to shut down the website on August 3 to resolve the issues that resulted in inaccurate data being linked to physicians.

CMS extended the deadline for physicians to review their data until September 8, 2014. The data release of information is expected to be public on September 30, 2014.

It is very important that physicians check the information for accuracy and register any complaints or disagreements, prior to the September 8 deadline.
