Recovery Audit Program Report
The 2010 Fee for Service (FFS) Recovery Audit Program results reveal recovery of $92.3 million in combined overpayments and underpayments identified and corrected by the Recovery Audit Contractors. 2010 was the first year of the national Recovery Audit program as required by the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006.
Each region successfully recouped millions of dollars so we anticipate continued efforts nationwide. In 2012, CMS shifts the responsibility for sending demand letters from the Recovery Auditors to the Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs).
The program will expand to include Medicare Part C and Part D as well as a RAC program for Medicaid.
