Red Flag Rule Postponed Again

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has delayed the enforcement of the Red Flag Rule from August 1, 2009 to November 1, 2009. The Red Flag Rule requires “creditors” to develop and implement a written identity theft prevention and detection program. The FTC considers physicians to be creditors because they accept insurance and/or allow payment plans.

The additional time prior to enforcement provides creditors and affected institutions additional time to comply with the required writing of a plan and training of staff.
