Discounting
Understanding discounting patient charges for services is important in ophthalmic practices who serve uninsured or under-insured patients. Before offering a discount for charges, practices should consider several factors, including their usual charges, the patient’s ability to pay a portion of the charge, the amount of discount to provide and any impact this may have on contracts with insurance for other services, as well as any potential scrutiny the discount may receive. In this module, the viewer learns the key points to consider when implementing a discount program. This eLearning program runs approximately 10 minutes. Review questions are presented and discussed at the conclusion of the course.
