Refractive Cataract Surgery

Refractive cataract surgery is a combination of traditional cataract surgery with refractive surgery to restore vision and reduce dependency on corrective eyewear.  Astigmatism correction and presbyopia correction are paramount considerations.  Significantly, the refractive component is not covered by Medicare, so it’s important to understand how that works in practice. This 15 minute eLearning program discusses the reimbursement concepts that led to current Medicare policies. Coding, claims submission, and financial waiver forms are also discussed. Lastly, a strategy for developing charges for noncovered services is explained. Review questions are presented at the conclusion of the course.
